Inspiration: 10 kitchen colour schemes I love

Having a new kitchen installed is a very exciting thing, but also a big investment. With lots of styles and colours out there to choose from, I’ve brought you 10 colour schemes that I particularly love.

1. Olive Green

First up is olive green - it’s my favourite colour so I had to put it first. Warm, earthy greens look great against either a light or a dark backdrop, and green also works beautifully with wood. Meaning that whatever countertop or floor you have, green will probably work with it. I particularly love a green door with a brass handle.

2. Pink

A pretty unique choice but a beautiful one is pink. It doesn’t have to be sickly sweet - go for a colour with a bit of brown in it (Setting Plaster by Farrow & Ball is a great one) for a more mature colour. Pink also looks great with a marble counter top and splash back, especially one with dramatic grey veining.

3. Navy

Navy is a very classic, timeless and failsafe colour for a kitchen. It works with pretty much any style of floor and counter top, but I particularly love it with a bright and uplifting white quartz. Nickel handles and knobs look particularly classic on a navy front.

4. Red

I’m not a massive fan of a saturated red which I think can feel a bit aggressive, but I do love a more orangey, terracotta, burgundy or vermillion (if you’re feeling fancy). For some reason I love it even more when it’s combined with modern or handleless door fronts.

5. Baby blue

Another colourful option, these light blue kitchens really made me smile. Pairing a light pastel colour like this with darker accents (like black taps or handles) adds dimension, and I also love the light wood against the blue.

6. White

Perhaps this isn’t the colour scheme for you if you’re a messy cook or have a young family - but there is something beautiful about a clean, white kitchen. Adding texture is the key to stopping this type of space from feeling clinical - so textured stone worktops, or tiled backsplashes as well as touches of wood.

7. Anthracite

I find that the darker the surface, the more marks and scuffs will show, especially if you have a matte surface. So a dark grey, anthracite kitchen is one that will need a frequent wipe down of doors, just so that you know what you’re getting into. That aside, this colour works well with traditional style kitchens and modern ones, particularly when paired with contrasting white accents or wood to bring warmth.

8. Teal

Can’t decide between green and blue? Well then teal is a happy compromise and is another timeless choice. It looks great with brass handles, and works well with light or dark counter tops. I particularly love a red accent against teal.

9. Yellow

Yellow is one of the happiest colours, so a yellow kitchen is going to feel like sunshine. I really like yellow paired with a clean white countertop and splashback.

10. Wood

Technically a material rather than a colour scheme, but I’ll keep it in the list. Wooden kitchens are having a comeback and it isn’t hard to see why. Combined with other natural textures and colours make these wood kitchens feel like such tranquil spaces.
