Bathroom styles to get you feeling inspired
Designing a bathroom is quite a commitment, because whatever design decisions you make will be harder to change. It’s worth taking some time to decide on your style, and plan the aesthetics of your bathroom to ensure that you’ll love it for years to come.
Here are some bathroom designs to get your inspiration flowing.
Show-stopping marble
Not cheap to source or install, but absolutely beautiful. This is the kind of bathroom where you open the door and go “wow”.
The larger the slab of marble the more expensive (generally), but the huge slabs with seamless marbling across every surface makes for such a dramatic and beautiful bathroom.
White minimalist
For an ultimate zen bathroom, you can’t go wrong with simple white tiles and seamless lines. Simple doesn’t have to mean boring though - handmade tiles add some much needed texture in the first example, and in the second the white is offset by the gold hardware and wooden vanity unit.
Not for those with children, or messy other halves. But we can dream…
Quirky tiles & colour
Probably best saved for your “forever home” or if you’re not planning on moving for a while - one way to bring character and some energy into your bathroom is to add a playful tile.
Depending on how daring you want to be, you could just feature some fun tiles as a small splash back, or go nuts and cover the entire floor or wall with them.
Natural textures & wood
Turn your bathroom into an earthy oasis by adding lots of natural textures like wood, rattan, wicker, and a shed load of plants.
Earthy accents help to offset any sterile or clinical feeling that tiles might give off. Just mind that whatever wood furniture you use is suitable for a bathroom.
Classic or traditional
If you’re a fan of a free standing tub then this one might be up your street. This style is best if you have a large bathroom - traditional style vanity units tend to be quite bulky and freestanding baths need more space.
You have a variety of wall treatment options in a classic style bathroom - mouldings or panelling suit this style perfectly.
Dark and luxurious
The dark aesthetic helps to create an ultimate “swanky hotel” style moody bathroom. Both examples above use Tadelakt - a waterproof plaster finish which adds dramatic texture and subtle interest to the walls.
The dark backdrop can really emphasise the other aspects of the bathroom and really make them pop - the metals, plants and lighting. Speaking of lighting, backlit mirrors and under-lit vanity units look great in a dark bathroom.
Panelling
Sometimes bathrooms can be a bit sterile, especially when they’re entirely tiled, so adding some panelling is a great way to add some warmth and texture. It also works whatever your aesthetic - dark and moody, light and airy, or colourful.
Make sure it’s sealed with a waterproof sealant or paint, and avoid panelling near ultra wet zones.
