Living room wallpaper inspiration

Wallpaper is a great way to add colour, pattern and texture into a space. Whether you’re into minimalism, maximalism, or anything in between, there’s a wallpaper that can work for your style. Here’s some living room wallpaper inspiration.

Subtle and neutral patterns

Starting with something for those who prefer a more minimal look, a plain wall can be transformed into something with subtle interest by using a pared back wallpaper. Using a neutral tone with a low contrast pattern still gives the look of an unfussy space but avoids the walls from feeling flat.

Dark and moody

Using a wallpaper with a dark background creates a cosy base in a room, which is great if you like the idea of a cave-like and moody space. Layered lighting is essential in rooms where you want to relax, even more so if you’re going dark on the walls.

A dramatic statement

If you’re into maximalism, then wallpaper is a must-have for your living room. There are some amazing brands on the market, and you can pretty much find a wallpaper featuring whatever you want - whether it’s florals, geometrics, animals or anything else you can think of.

Panelling is another way to add some interest to a wall, and looks particularly good in older properties. If you don’t want to go floor to ceiling with wallpaper, then consider panelling the bottom half of the wall and wallpapering the top half for a more traditional look.

Alcove highlights

If your living room has a chimney breast, there’s an opportunity to highlight this area and have it as a focal point in the room. If you don’t want to wallpaper every wall, having it as a backdrop to alcoves with built in cabinets and shelves in front is a creative way of introducing some pattern into the space.

Likewise, rather than wallpapering inside the alcoves, the chimney breast also offers a focal point which you can cover with contrasting pattern and colour to the other walls.

Wallpapered panels

This is a great way of giving a contemporary edge to a traditional feature within a room. This type of panelling lends itself to older properties and a more traditional design style, and can be turned into a real design statement by filling them with wallpaper.
