6 ways hiring an interior designer can save you money

Hiring an interior designer is a luxury, but what people don’t necessarily know is that as a result of working with an interior designer, you can save money overall.

Avoid design mistakes

A well thought out design means that you are unlikely to make costly mistakes. Have you ever seen something online and ordered it, only to realise that it doesn’t quite work in your room and you’re not sure why?

As well as having the eye, skills and know-how to pull together a good scheme, an interior designer can help you visualise your room before you spend any money. Visualising how a room is going to look can be difficult, but they will be able to show you your space coming together, through mood boards, 2D and 3D images. You’ll be able to make sure that you love the final look before you commit to buying anything.

Choose better quality furniture

Your designer will know which brands and retailers make the best quality furniture (and which don’t!). They will be able to advise you, meaning you won’t need to worry about buying poorly built furniture which will look good for a long time, and won’t need to be replaced after it inevitably breaks.

Access trade discounts

Perhaps the most quantifiable savings you’ll make working with an interior designer is through trade discounts. As professionals, interior designers have access to trade pricing at many different retailers; with discounts of up to 40% at popular high street shops, online retailers and specialist suppliers. When these discounts are applied to all the furniture, paint, soft furnishings and accessories for a room, they quickly add up… and very often they offset a large chunk of the designer’s fee.

Not only do you get to access the trade discounts, but your designer will also purchase items on your behalf, saving you time as well as money.

Get the most for your budget

Knowing where to spend and where to save can be difficult, and an interior designer will be able to guide you to get the most from your budget, where to invest more money and where you can spend a bit less.

You don’t need a huge budget to create a great design, and an interior designer will help you achieve the look you want whilst keeping to your budget.

Timeless design

Timeless design is tricky to get right, and interiors go through the same cycle of trends as fashion does - meaning you might love something one year but find that it’s out of fashion (and everyone is doing it!) the next year.

An interior designer will help you bring the trends you love into your home, whilst making sure that it’s timeless. They’ll work hard to make sure that you’ll love your space for years to come and won’t feel the need to change it.

Increase the value of your home

And finally, if you’re looking to sell your home in the future, it’s a fact that a well designed and styled home is more likely to attract buyers. Not only will it help get potential buys through the doors, but a professionally styled home can boost your sale price from 7.5% to 12.5%, according to Harvey Victoria.
