Cosy autumnal colour scheme inspiration

It’s the first of October and that can only mean one thing… autumn is here! It has to be my favourite season of the year. I think it’s the combination of the cooler weather, the changing colours, and cosy evenings at home. An autumnal colour palette is beautiful too, so here’s some inspiration for bringing some autumn colour into your home.

Rusty red

Red is typically a colour which brings energy and intensity into a room, but if you go for a warmer, orange/rust coloured red the result is an incredibly warm and cosy space. Great for kitchens, living rooms or bedrooms.

You can combine it with other warm colours like beige, brown and mustard to really up the autumnal vibes.

Olive green

My favourite colour hands-down! Green is such a great colour for bringing cosiness to a room because of it’s natural associations, and olive green is the warmest version of green - making a room feel really comfortable.

Chocolate brown

You probably have to be feeling quite brave to paint a room brown, but this colour is such a beautiful one which I think is overlooked and the results speak for themselves. Paired with lighter colours like white or cream, a chocolate brown room doesn’t feel dark or dingy. Or you can lean the other way and combine it with dark and luxurious colours to really embrace an autumnal look.

Warm beige and brown

Autumn schemes don’t have to be dark, you can still have lighter walls whilst bringing the cosiness factor. Warm beige is a great option if you want more neutral walls, without being too stark unlike white. Beige looks great paired with wood and leather accents to create a warm and cosy colour scheme.

Mustard yellow

Probably not one for me, but if you prefer a brighter more uplifting palette, yellow can bring the autumn vibes especially if you go for a more mustard tone. When combined with darker colours or wood tones, it can create a punchy but still cosy scheme.

Warm grey

With grey, the key is to go for a warm grey or even a greige (grey beige). Grey can sometimes feel cold, so going for one with a warmer undertone will make sure you keep a space feeling cosy and comfortable. Combining grey with warm accents through your soft furnishings, accessories and art plus lots of ambient lighting is a great way to create a cosy colour scheme.
