10 ways to display art, prints and photos in your home

Art, prints and photos are a wonderful way to bring some of your personality into your home. If you’re looking for some ideas on how to display them other than simply hanging them on the wall, here’s a few creative ideas.

The lean to

For a relaxed style, lean your art against the wall - this could be propped up on furniture or even on the floor for an extra casual look (as long as you don’t mind the dust…)

A classic gallery wall

If you’ve got a curation of prints, art and photos that you’ve collected over time, why not group them into a gallery wall. You can either go relaxed and mismatched with your positioning and frames, or else uniform in a grid.

Above furniture

A classic position for your art work - just above furniture like beds, sideboards and sofas. Try to stick to the 2/3rds rule - the art should be at least 2/3 the width of the furniture that it’s above.

Picture ledges

Good for people who like to change their minds a lot - a picture ledge lets you switch up your art as often as you want. Stack them on top of each other up the length of the wall to make a statement.

Up high

A great technique for emphasising the height of a room; use the full height of your wall to draw the eye upwards.

Use as shelving decor

Another good choice for people who like to change their minds often! Leaning frames on shelves is a good way to add some height to a shelf and add some casual styling. Layer different sized frames behind each other for an interesting look.

A painted frame

If you’re feeling creative and want to add a pop of colour, add some colour blocking to your room to frame your prints.

Picture frame moulding

Great for more traditional styles and older buildings, picture moulding makes a great feature on its own, and looks fabulous when around a piece of art.

Frame doorways

Get some smaller prints, photos or even postcards, and use them to frame a doorway to add some interest.

Ditch the frame

Think outside the frame… and use something else to hang up your prints! Washi tape, hung on string, or suspended by bulldog clips - this adds a really cool and relaxed look.
